Not doing too bad here, thanks for the quick reply! Work's slow, so I'm taking the chance to brush up on my skills - sharpening the saw, so to speak. Been looking at hg and git and i've been learning erlang for a little while, thought FP's certainly a mind-flip. I look forward to the day when i just "get it".

We ended up going with Git at work as it seems to be more powerful, but I think I'll go with hg for personal projects as it looks to have a better interface as you mentioned.

T

Hi Taufiq!

Long time no see mate. I had no idea that you were still around. How are things at your end?

The short answer to your question is that Hg has a much simpler interface, is easier to use, has a workflow that I prefer, works better on Windows and has a nicer install. It's also built in a single language, rather than a hodgepodge of languages and scripts. You also don't need to worry about installing cygwin or msys to get it working, it just works out of the box.

It's as fast, and in many ways just as powerful, as git. But with it's simplicity it lacks some of the more advanced features of Git.

I've been using hg personally for ages now, and have even used it professionally on a recent job and it was a joy to work with.

At the end of the day, the choice is yours. But I don't think you'd regret using Hg if you chose to go down that path.

Hope that helps!
OJ

A nice set of instructions there. I'm interested to know how you came about the decision to choose Mercurial though. I'm taking a look at Git and Mercurial at the moment and trying to decide which one to go with. They look fairly equivalent in functionality - was there anything in particular that made one stand out over the other?

cheers,
Taufiq

@Paul: You're most welcome! I'm happy you found it helpful and even happier you've now got it all functioning as a result of reading. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

BTW, not that it matters greatly, but my surname is "Reeves", not "Reed" :) Thanks for the kudos on your pages too.

All the best with your projects.

OJ,
Thanks for the clearly written docs on using Mercurial with SSH! Because of this blog, I finally managed to access a Mercurial repository on kenai.com from my WinXP machine with ssh (rather https), and I was able to document how to do it in the help docs (see http://kenai.com/projects/help/pages/Winsshwithputty and http://kenai.com/projects/help/pages/Usinghg-winsshsetup). I also made sure to credit you with the docs that made mine possible. Thanks again!

@Jeremy: Thanks so much for the tip! That's great stuff. I'll edit the post and make sure that people reference your comment so they know there's a solution.

Thanks!

I tracked down the fix for the spaces in the names issue you mentioned since it caused me problems with my implementation. Quite simple..
Change your AppParameters to include --unquote
ie: C:\python25\Scripts\tracd-script.py –port 8009 C:\Trac\Slartibartfast --protocol=ajp --unquote

Thanks for the guide, it was very helpful for me.
